The "Gibraltar of the North" surrendered almost without a shot being fired in 1809, after the crafty Russians chose not to arrive by sea. Three years later, Helsinki was proclaimed the new capital of Finland - Turku was felt to be too close to Sweden for comfort.
Suomenlinna/Sveaborg, once a fortress, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
